Lenten Wednesday Worship: “The Way of the Cross”
Wednesday, February 22 marks the beginning of Lent. On this first Wednesday of Lent we have invited the other Lutheran churches in the county to join us at St Paul at 7pm for the Ash Wednesday worship service. We will remember once again that we “are dust, and to dust” we shall return. We will celebrate communion together and we will prayerfully ask God to forgive us and strengthen us in our Christian journey.
On the following five Wednesdays (February 29, March 7, March 14, March 21, and March 28) we will gather each Wednesday at 6pm for a Soup Supper. We will worship at 7pm Once again we will be using Holden Evening Prayer.
Our theme this year is “The Way of the Cross”. Each week we will discuss events and people in Jesus final week before his death:
1. Jesus and Pilate: Mistaken and Called
2. Jesus and Simon of Cyrene: Abandoned and Served
3. Jesus and the Soldiers: Stripped and Empowered
4. Jesus and the Scoffers: Scorned and Forgiven
5. Jesus, John, and Mary: Finished and Loved
The journey of event is amazing because at every point where we are confronted by our own darkness, our own sinfulness, our own death, God in Jesus Christ is there with us, naming our problems and offering healing, hope and life.
Join us for worship. If you cannot join us, please try to attend the Round Robin Lent Worship Services that are mentioned on page 11 of this publication.
“Merciful assist us, O Lord God of our salvation, that we may remember with joy the mighty acts whereby you have given us life everlasting: through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen”
See you in church ~ Pastor Betsy
